Join us on 8 October for the second Inspiration Meeting, where we will explore how provocation, controversy, and breaking conventions can become powerful tools in photographic practice.
8 October 2026 | 6:30 PM
Cracow School of Art and Fashion Design Auditorium
52 Zamoyskiego Street, Kraków
Free admission — everyone interested in photography is welcome.
What happens when photography challenges conventions, provokes the viewer, or deliberately crosses boundaries?
Our second Inspiration Meeting will explore controversy, provocation, and the breaking of social and aesthetic conventions in photography — and how these approaches can become an important part of an artist’s individual visual language.
1. HELMUT NEWTON & BRUCE GILDEN
We will begin with a short lecture dedicated to two photographers who have consistently challenged audiences and photographic conventions: Helmut Newton and Bruce Gilden.
Two very different approaches. Two distinctive visual languages. Two careers in which controversy became an important element of the work.
2. CONTROVERSY AS AN ARTISTIC TOOL
In the second part of the meeting, we will open the discussion:
Can controversy help an artist find their own voice?
We will look at provocation not simply as a way of attracting attention, but as a conscious artistic strategy — a way to question conventions, confront the viewer, and communicate ideas that might otherwise remain unnoticed.
3. OPEN DISCUSSION
We also invite you to bring your own references into the conversation.
Think of photographers whose work uses provocation, controversy, or the breaking of social and aesthetic conventions as a means of expression.
Bring names, photographs, books, or projects that you find interesting — especially those that make you uncomfortable, raise questions, challenge your expectations, or divide opinions.
Where does provocation end and meaningful artistic expression begin?
Join us for an evening of discussion, questions, and different perspectives on what photography can — and perhaps should — do.
See you at the second Inspiration Meeting!
