Ryszard Cabała
"Krakow, portraits of the city" by Ryszard Cabała – a graduate of the School of Creative Photography in the 2014/2015 school year. The theme of the exhibition is the urban landscape of Krakow seen through the prism of a fisheye lens with a subtle accent of the female nude. The works are made using the gum bichromate technique, 70 x 100 cm. The gum technique belongs to the noble techniques; the beginnings of this technique date back to the 1950s. To obtain a positive image, the light sensitivity of potassium or ammonium dichromate solutions and gum arabic as an organic colloid are used. The advantage of this technique is its extraordinary durability over time, measured in hundreds or even thousands of years. The oldest Egyptian papyri have not changed their appearance for many thousands of years; the ink used by the Egyptians was soot mixed with gum arabic.
