Michał Kęskiewicz

Michał Kęskiewicz's diploma project is maintained in raw and subdued colors. According to the author's intention, the photos "were supposed to show the city, its mysterious corners (…) Later, I started adding props. The first were mannequin hands – an element from the world of fashion. Then I reached for a lingerie advertisement poster, and finally, for dolls. From these single photos, a story was born about the contemporary world, full of contrasts. A world that on one hand fascinates me, and on the other, terrifies me. The perfect body on an advertising poster in the raw, ascetic surroundings of an empty market square seems almost ridiculous. Mannequin hands falling out of a garbage bag are terrifying. What we would find appealing in another setting, here is frightening or intriguing. The props seemingly don't fit here, but is that certain? (…)An additional 'completion' of the message was the use of a banner as the substrate for the photos. A banner is associated with pop culture, with the world of advertising in its most aggressive form. I wanted to speak in its language, partly about itself, and partly about something completely different."
