PASSION. "They dragged him through the garden, they pulled him by the hair!" This sentence and others like it, sung like a mantra by a crowd of pilgrims in Passion litanies wandering the paths of Kalwaria, still echo in my ears to this day. They evoke indescribable emotions, spiritual and artistic experiences that accompany the celebration of Holy Week, a sacred time for Christians, in that extraordinary place. A place of world heritage—where for 417 years, heaven and the mystery of mankind's redemption have met a beautiful rural landscape, crisscrossed by picturesque alleys of centuries-old oaks, paths with historic chapels and small churches.
