Fashion Laboratory 2017
On Saturday, June 10, we saw how young fashion artists interpreted the work of Stanisław Wyspiański. The latest projects by SAPU students were showcased during the Fashion Laboratory show at the Novotel Kraków City West.
Second-year SAPU students first studied the life and work of the Young Poland playwright, poet, painter, and, from a contemporary perspective, designer of applied art. They then analyzed his work from a visual perspective and explored ways to apply it to contemporary clothing (e.g., prints, patchwork, appliqués, embroidery, and the influence of forms on garment construction). The result was a series of original and modern garments, premiered during the event.
First-year students designed and created one outfit each from raw cotton fabric using a wooden board (these did not reference Wyspiański).
The show also featured the graduation collection of SAPU alumna Sandra Stachura, titled Deep Space. The futuristic clothing and shoes, made from innovative materials such as 3D printing, fiber optics, and plastics, were awarded second prize at the Off Fashion competition and received a distinction at the Cracow Fashion Awards 2017.
The evening was further enriched by a dance performance prepared by students of the School of Choreography.
