HELMUT NEWTON & BRUCE GILDEN

We will begin with a short lecture dedicated to two photographers who have consistently challenged audiences and photographic conventions: Helmut Newton and Bruce Gilden.

Two very different approaches. Two distinctive visual languages. Two careers in which controversy became an important element of the work.

2. OPEN DISCUSSION

We also invite you to bring your own references into the conversation.

Think of photographers whose work uses provocation, controversy, or the breaking of social and aesthetic conventions as a means of expression.

Bring names, photographs, books, or projects that you find interesting — especially those that make you uncomfortable, raise questions, challenge your expectations, or divide opinions.

Where does provocation end and meaningful artistic expression begin?

Join us for an evening of discussion, questions, and different perspectives on what photography can — and perhaps should — do.

See you at the second Inspiration Meeting!

School of Creative Photography Exchange: Open Meetup –
